Doll 2011 - 17 Inch Swaine & Co. Model "DI" German Character Child
Price: $1250

Detailed Description

Swaine & Co. was a German porcelain factory in the Sonneberg area that did not make porcelain doll heads until 1910.  For this reason, you do not see any dolls with this maker's mark other than in the character category.  The factory did not use mold numbers in most cases, but they designated each model by using lettering, this one being the DI model.  The back of his neck bears the letters "DI," the numeral "5" and the round green Swaine & Co. stamp.  The character dolls from the Swaine factory are superb quality and very desirable by character doll collectors.  The intaglio style eye was used frequently which is what this young lad has.  The eyes are deeply cut and painted to give greath depth to the eyes.  The little white highlight mark gives a lifelike appearance.  His mouth is open/closed with the illusion of a tongue between his carefully arched and outlined lips.  His ears have excellent modeling and his head is solid with molded and painted hair.  His fully jointed child body is superior quality, having chubby proportions almost like a toddler body.  He is dressed in an antique wool knitted two piece suit (with a few moth holes), two-tone antique lace-up German shoes and boy style unders.  Your girls will love him.
