Doll 1881 - Just Me, Fired Bisque Head Character by Armand Marseilles
|
"Just Me" is a side-glancing bisque head character manufactured in 1925 by the German doll company Armand Marseilles. This one is the fired bisque version on which the facial painting was applied prior to firing of the bisque head making the color steadfast and non-removable or easily chipped. The painted bisque Just Me was used by the Vogue Doll Company and is considered the forerunner to the Ginny Doll.
This doll has pale bisque with not-so-highly tinted cheeks and a much softer expression. She has side-glancing blue sleep eyes, wispy brows, original mohair wig and cardboard pate and the correct and original five piece composition toddler style body with a 90 degree bent right arm. Her body has the original patina and blushing on the knees. She has one thumb chip and a crack at her right wrist (reglued) is hardly noticeable.
The orange felt coat and matching tam are original to her and the dress she is wearing is possibly original as it is factory-made. She has a onesie and matching slip underneath that also look original. Her leatherette shoes and socks are appropriate for her period but not original to her. Inside the case are additionally 5 period dresses, 1 skirt, 1 blouse, 1 onesie, 1 pair of panties, 1 slip, 1 apron, 1 slip, 1 pair of lace-up shoes, 1 original shoe with pom-pom, and 3 extra socks. Most of the items look homemade except for one red dress that could be an original Just Me dress. Her felt coat has some wear and a few mendable tatters but the wardrobe is basically in good condition. This is an especially cute example of Just Me and will make an excellent display in any collection.
