Great American Classic Comic Characters by Schoenhut

Doll 1878 - Wood Schoenhut Original Jiggs and Maggie

No Schoenhut collection is complete without examples of the wonders in comic characters of this great American doll and toy maker. Schoenhut brought comic strip characters into the homes of children by way of toys beginning sometime in the early 1900's. Jiggs and Maggie are all original as shown on page 89 of M. Elaine and Dan Buser's Guide to Schoenhut's Dolls, Toys and Circus. Jiggs is proud to still have his cigar which is often broken off and Maggie's top knot is present. They do not appear to have been played with frequently but do show some signs of age such as wear to the top curls on Jiggs, paint wear on his right shoe toe and a fleck of paint off the top of Maggie's head. Jiggs must have been a favorite with the moths as his felt shirt has a few love bites. It is hard to believe this pair is 100 years old! Overall, they are in good to excellent condition with no repairs or repaint. They are fresh out of an estate and were stored safely through the years.
