Doll 1820 - Baby Bo Kaye Character Bisque Head Designed by Joseph Kallus


Baby Bo Kaye is featured in Maree Tarnowska's Rare Character Dolls book on page 36. This beautiful baby is actually a toddler with a stitch jointed cloth stuffed body and composition lower arms and legs. The body is original although we had the arms and legs professionally refinished due to the common problem of cracking of the paint. He looks so comfortable in his antique white bassinet with a fan back. Inside the bassinet is a lace and ribbon trimmed padded picay saque for cold weather. He has layers of clothing under the beautiful antique gown. The molded and painted hair curls cover his forehead and he has blue sleep eyes, an open mouth with a big overbite and two lower teeth. The bisque is spectacular, creamy and lightly blushed. This marvelous bisque head is believed to have been made by Alt, Beck & Gottschalck of Germany, and united with the body made by K & K Toy Co. and ultimately distributed in the U.S. by George Borgfeldt & Co. in the early 1920's. This is a beautiful example of a rarely found German character doll.
