Oh my, how I love these German character dolls! Gebruder Heubach surpassed expectations on this 20-1/2 inch toddler with outstanding and unique presence. She has the square Heubach mark on her neck and the blocked style mold #8413 at the rim of her head. She is found in the Heubach Character Dolls & Figurines book by Lydia Richter and Karin Schmelcher and is described as an "exceptional and rare doll." The examples shown in the book are on varying types of bodies. The Heubach factory was a bisque factory and did not manufacture bodies which explains why many of them are on different quality and style of bodies. This girl takes the "prize," both for style and quality of body as she is on a wonderfully chubby fully jointed composition body with proportions of a 1-2 year old child versus a slender slant hip toddler body that would better represent a 3-4 year old child. The condition of the body is excellent with the normal scuffs, and besides unnoticeable touchup on one repaired thumb, it has the original finish. It is so hard to describe a doll with this much personality! Her character is so life like and so appealing that her photos can do better justice to her than my words. But I will say, she has beautiful unblemished bisque, wide cheeks, an extremely unturned nose, an open/closed mouth with a protruding molded tongue and two upper molded teeth, a wide smile that seems to go from ear to ear with all of the in-between crisp dimples and cheek molding that you can only imagine until you see her in person. Her brows are feathered, her upper and lower lashes are evenly stroked with a light touch and her "Heubach blue" eyes sleep retain the original lid wax. The Heubach book says that "upper teeth are far more rare than those found below." She has the pink inside her head like many of the Heubach dolls. I see an insignificant scratch on the glaze inside of her head. Her eyes have the original set. Aside from a bit of darkness in the mold line on one side of her head, her bisque is without flaws, blemishes or damage. Her antique wig (probably original) is in the original curly set as it came from the factory. She is dressed in a darling silk taffeta toddler dress, antique underset trimmed in lace, gorgeous silk bonnet with ruching and rosettes over each ear, antique German shoes and socks and a big smile!
