Absolutely stunning blue-eyed BRU JNE 4, circa 1881-89, 15-1/2 inches. Desirable chevrot style Bru body, swivel neck on marked “Bru Jne 4” deep shoulder plate with the Bru feature of molded breasts. Her head is marked Bru Jne 4. Very distinguishable Bru bisque lower arms and lower wooden legs with beautifully modeled feet. She possesses all of the qualities and presence that instantly demand a double take at first glance. She brings all of what a collector would want to represent the top echelon production of the Bru factory. Her pale bisque is virtually free of blemishes and rubs, her coloring is the finest I have seen and she has the most expressive pale blue paperweight eyes surrounded by multiple lashes, blushed eyelids and finely feathered brows. Her outlined and arched lips have the hint of a tongue. The long blonde Rembrandt style hand-tied mohair wig is attached to her original cork pate and I have assumed it is original to her. This beautiful French bebe came to me from an estate collection in her antique clothing that was long ago made for her. It is very appropriate for her with the scooped neckline that shows her beautiful bisque shoulder plate. The simplicity of the garment and softness of the pink accents give way for her beauty. I love the look. Rows of delicate French lace accent the bodice, sleeves and skirt. She wears antique French leather shoes marked “C.M.” The condition at first impression is that of perfection, however, she does have a few flaws that I feel should be mentioned. She has a tiny rough spot on her left earring pierce. She has two very professionally restored fingers on her left hand (very common with the bisque hands!). There is a crack (not a break) across both insteps of her wooden feet and her lower legs were retouched long ago with the same flesh tint as the original. There is a grain-of-salt size spot beside one lash that can only be seen with a jeweler’s loop and does not even show up in the close photos. The front breast plate scalloped leather strip is missing and it was replaced with matching non-scalloped leather. The back scalloped leather strip is present. The price of this doll is moderate when compared to recent auction and outright sales prices. Do not hesitate to email if you have a keen interest.
