Doll 1772 - "Laughing Heubach" Mold 5637 by Gebruder Heubach


What can you say about the "Laughing Heubach?" His expression speaks for him. He has the wide open/closed mouth showing two lower front teeth, his tongue resting behind them and even space inside as though he is belting out a big laugh with his mouth wide open. I find myself chuckling as I gaze at him for this description. Such a character! Gebruder Heubach is famous for being able to project real life in his dolls. (Of course, we know he only produced heads, not bodies.) But this little fellow is on his "as sold" original body. It is a wood and composition fully jointed child body with straight wrists. His original mohair wig is still in tact. The brown eyes sleep and he has feathered brows and upper and lower lashes. Besides his wonderful old straw hat, he has an extra attraction--he is wearing a one-piece romper with plaid accents that has the original label "Marshall Field & Co. / Chicago" sewn into the inner edge of the back button opening!
