5 In. Factory Original, Swivel Neck, Glass Eyes

Doll 1632 - All Bisque Googly by J. D. Kestner, Mold #292


Although the 292 all bisque Googlies are unmarked as to maker, they are attributed to J. D. Kestner and many of them were originally in costumes representing European countries. (See Anita Ladensack's The History and Art of Googlies.) This one and her longtime friend (Doll 1631) beside her have swivel necks, glass eyes and all of their original Swedish costumes. I owned a matching pair of 292 googlies, a boy and girl, that recently sold and they were all from my collection. I would like to point out that there are "fakes" or "knockoffs" bearing the same number on their heads and are being sold on on-line auctions and at shows as authentic antique all bisque googlies. Collectors need to be aware of this and be very careful to ensure that what you are paying for is actually what they should be. This example seems to have a more "devilish" manner than most of the 292 all bisque googlies. This is a wonderful all original example of the authentic antique all bisque 292 Googly circa: 1911-1918.
